We dispense NHS prescriptions and will give advice on how to get the most benefit from your medicines.
We keep a comprehensive stock of medicines and use a fast and an efficient wholesaler service to enable us to get the medicines you need.
The emergency contraception pill (sometimes known as the “morning after pill”) is available from Pontllanfraith Pharmacy without a prescription and if you qualify, free of charge.
If you have had unprotected sex, and are worried about getting pregnant, taking emergency hormonal contraception within 3-5 days can help prevent pregnancy.
The emergency contraceptive pill can be used if you have had sex without using contraception, or if you have had sex but there was a mistake with your usual contraception (for example, a split condom or if you forgot to take your usual contraceptive pills).
The pill should be taken as soon as possible after unprotected sex - the earlier it is taken, the more effective it is.
If you think you need emergency hormonal contraceptive advice come and have a confidential and anonymous consultation with our Pharmacist.
If following your consultation our Pharmacist does not believe that the morning after pill is suitable for you, they will be able to direct you to either a doctor or clinic that can help you further.
Although it is effective and there are no serious side effects of using Emergency Contraception, this form of contraception should only be used in an emergency and not on a regular basis as a first choice method of contraception.
If you need one of your regular medicines in an emergency when you are unable to contact your doctor, we may be able to help you.
Please note that we will only be able to do this in cases of genuine emergencies.
The pharmacist and our trained assistants are available for advice on all medicines and minor ailments, in private if required.
We can also give you advice on how to live a healthy life, for example, advice on how to stop smoking, or healthy diets.
We can direct you to other sources of advice and assistance if we cannot help you ourselves.
Our pharmacist can advise on medical requirements for travellers, including anti-malarial treatments.
We keep a wide range of over the counter medicines, vitamins and mineral supplements.
The free NHS Discharge Medicines Review Service is available to those who live in Wales, whether you have just been discharged yourself, or if you are helping to care for someone who has just left hospital.
We'll help make sure that the medicine you're prescribed by your doctor when you return home is the same as the prescription you received while in hospital, or care setting.
We can also answer any questions you may have about your medicine, including how to take it, and can help sort out any issues that may arise.
Please bring in your discharge letter and speak to one of our Pharmacists about this service.
Our computer allows us to keep records of all your prescriptions dispensed by us. This helps us check for possible problems such as reactions between medicines and will help us deal with any queries you may have.
We comply with the Data Protection Act and the NHS code of practice on confidentiality. If you want to discuss the records we keep, please ask to speak to the pharmacist.
We provide a free prescription delivery service throughout the local area for those having difficulty visiting the Pharmacy which is particularly useful for housebound or disabled customers (restrictions on use apply).
Please contact us to find out more about this service.
We have a consultation area available if you’d like to discuss something in private.
